The system, written down
A colour line is only as good as the training behind it — and training starts with a system a colorist can actually hold in their head. Below is the RosaNera colour system as it is printed on the product: which developer, in what ratio, for how long, and the test that comes first.
Every figure on this page is transcribed from the printed instruction or from the Color Shock Technical Manual. Where this page and the carton in your hand ever disagree, the carton is right.
01 — Choosing the developer
Five strengths, five jobs
The Oxidizing Emulsion Cream is what decides how far the colour travels. The shade sets the direction; the developer sets the distance.
| Developer | What it is for |
|---|---|
| 5 vol 1.5% | Deposit only. Toning and refreshing on coloured or pre-lightened hair, and with the toner shades. |
| 10 vol 3% | Darkening by one level, or colouring hair that has already been bleached. |
| 20 vol 6% | Tone on tone, grey coverage, or lightening by one level. |
| 30 vol 9% | Medium lightening — two to three levels. |
| 40 vol 12% | Strong lightening — three to four levels. |
Past four levels, the Superlift series replaces the standard shades. Beyond the reach of Superlift, the service becomes a lightening service and moves to the Bleach range.
02 — Mixing and application
One to two, thirty minutes
- 01
Mix in a non-metallic bowl
Metal reacts with the oxidising system. This is not a preference — a metal bowl or a metal tool will alter the result.
- 02
One part colour to two parts developer
The standard ratio across the shade range is 1:2. Superlift shades are the exception and mix at 1:3 — one part cream to three parts Oxidizing Emulsion Cream.
- 03
Apply to dry, unwashed hair
Distribute the mixture evenly. The carton is explicit that the hair is neither wet nor freshly washed at the point of application.
- 04
Develop for about 30 minutes
Then rinse gently with warm water and shampoo with an after-colour shampoo at pH 4.5. The MEN shades are the exception — see below.
Development times
| Product | Time | With heat |
|---|---|---|
| Hair Color Cream | 30 minutes | 20–25 minutes |
| Superlift series 12 | 30–45 minutes | Not recommended |
| As a toner, 5 or 10 vol | 5–30 minutes | Not recommended |
| Men series | 5–15 minutes | Not recommended |
| Liquid Direct Pigments | 5–30 minutes | Not required |
03 — Before every service
The preliminary sensitivity test
This is the one procedure on this page that is not a matter of craft. It precedes every colouring service, and the 48 hours are the point of it — a reaction that has not appeared yet is not an absent reaction.
- 01
48 hours before every service
Not once per client, and not once per season. The test precedes each colouring service.
- 02
Prepare a small test dose
Mix one part colour cream with two parts developer — the same ratio as the service — using a cotton bud, a tint bowl and a measuring spoon.
- 03
Apply behind the ear or at the inner elbow
A small dose on clean, unbroken skin. Leave it for about 35 minutes, then clean the area with a towel. Do not wash it.
- 04
Read it at 48 hours
If any rash, redness, burning or itching appears within 48 hours, the service does not go ahead. If nothing appears, you may proceed.
Caution
This product contains ingredients which may cause skin irritation on certain individuals and a preliminary test according to accompanying directions should first be made. This product must not be used for dyeing the eyelashes or eyebrows; to do so may cause blindness.
04 — Working with us
What training looks like right now
RosaNera is opening in the United States, which means the honest answer differs depending on where you are. Here is what is available today rather than what we hope to run later.
-
Technical documentation
Available nowIngredient lists, safety data sheets and the printed service instruction for every product in the range, in English. This page is the summary; the product pages carry the full detail.
-
Distributor technical training
With a distribution agreementProduct training for the distributor's own team — the shade system, the lightening ladder, the treatment protocols — so the territory can support salons without waiting on us.

In-salon sessions
Once your territory has a distributorRun through the distributor holding the territory. If there is no distributor near you yet, tell us where you are — that is how territories get prioritised.
